For the fun of it

These series of guest posts are written by the teams attending the Tetuan Valley Startup School Fall edition. The Pink team, formed by William Wallace and Ana María Salas, they’re presenting their project, Torresgate.

It’s been only a week and a half since we started the Tetuan Valley Startup School, and yet, we’ve learned so much by just trying to get our own project going. We’ve learned that working creatively as a team is harder than we thought, how important it is to share a vision with your team members and to be humble about one’s own opinions. We’ve also learned that a leader is not the best orator, but the best listener. We’ve seen how incredibly important it is to feel passionate without becoming overwhelmed.

As engineering students, we’ve always faced the technical problems, and only these, arrogantly thinking they were the most important and critical challenges a business, or any project for that matter, could face. Through our work here, we’ve seen the complexity of other aspects of business, such as creativity, sociability and marketing skills. We’ve been humbled by the astonishing knowledge necessary to run a successful business, and found that the key part is to always be open to the advice of the wiser.

Overwhelmed at first, we realized that becoming an entrepreneur for money, success or admiration is not the path to follow. The task is so daunting, that any egotistical matter will not be enough to drive you forward. You must have fun along the way, and surround yourself with intelligent, funky people that will be the ones who make the journey worthwhile.

Tetuan Valley provides us with the entourage we need to be successful. The people we’ve met, and their inspiration and ideas, have humbled us to a level where we feel we’re learning faster than ever, on topics that cannot be covered in any academic scenario. This quest might not lead us to wealth or fame, but it sure is becoming a life changing experience!
