These series of guest posts are written by the teams attending the Tetuan Valley Startup School Fall edition. The Red team, formed by Abel Muiño, is presenting his project, Triptance.com.
I decided to watch again “Code Rush” because it embodies a lot of what I am going through during Tetuan Valley Startup School: intensive work, short deadlines and trying to make something new in a market with a strong competition.
When I show the video to many people, their reaction is along the lines of: what a bunch of freaks! This keeps striking me by surprise every time.
What I see is the passion of an “A Team” in building their product… and I find myself being envious of these guys because I could not (yet) find a team with that passion to work with. I hardly noticed the weird looks the first time I watched the documentary.
I will not get into the subtle insights that are in the video… I will pay attention to two very severe warnings instead.
First thing I want to highlight is that startup way of life is very different from running an established business. Startups face new, unexplored problems which need innovative and creative solutions, so they need creative people who accept the risk and share the passion for what the company is doing. Finding that people will be hard through the usual channels, so creativity must also be used for recruiting them.
But that is a business problem, so it can be managed. The real warning, what one should be ready to deal with when starting up, is the very demanding nature of the adventure. It will have an impact on everyone around -social life, friends and (specially) family- so their support is vital for the success.
For some reason, I am more thrilled than frightened (although I dare not say I am not scared).
So the bottom line, I think, is: if you are planning to start up, be sure to love it. Or leave it.

Love it or leave it… That about sums it up!
