Startup school fall 2009 project introductions

Teams have just submitted their posts to present their companies and will start their pitches in a few minutes. Follow us on @TetuanValley or get the feed from presenters and the rest of the entrepreneurs with the #tetuanvalley hash

Triptance (http://triptance.com)

I am Abel Muiño (@amuino) an all-round developer with a background on both “serious business” (from museums to banking or public administration) and startup companies (like Denodo and Berggi). I have also started thecloudmarket.com before joining Tetuan Valley Startup School.

The idea for the Startup School project first came to live more than a year ago with Maria Encinar (@encinar) and although she was not able to enroll in the Startup School, we are working together. She is co-organizer of Iniciador Galicia and the founder of inconformia.tv,

Our project is Triptance (@triptance), the travel notebook which will enable “2.0 travelers” to organize, publish and review their travel experiences. What’s new on this is that everything turns around the travel experience, unlike existing websites where the central point is buying a ticket or making a reservation (two important things that need to be done, but are far from being the whole travel experience).

IT Services Marketplace (@itmarketplace)

IT Services Marketplace is an independent IT marketplace grouping services in a structured way that addresses the users to the right partners. A place where visitors can read articles and documents about the IT services and providers can offer their products and services with more visibility.

Our market segment: small companies and professionals non IT-specialists, with a core business far away, but with the need to improve efficiency.

Today the offer is not structured. The potential customers are faced to a “Google search” that provides a huge amount of data, not always relevant that they need to filter, spending time & money, and maybe taking the non-right decision.

It Services Marketplace is held by two professionals (@FranzFernandez Computer Science & @EmilioGlezGlez Aeronautics engineers) with more than 20 years experience in different companies related to IT, computers, SW and CAD/CAM, mainly focused in services to small and big accounts.

Reutilza.me (http://reutiliza.me)

Our project is based on day-to-day needs. After some initial brainstorming we noticed people have extreme difficulties to get rid of old goods they don’t need anymore. We thought whatever we don’t need anymore can be used by others instead of ending up in the trash or being recycled, the difficulty lies in finding someone nearby who needs what we want to throw away. Furthermore, how could we find something we need and that we can’t or don’t want to pay for?

We aim to create a web service that allows people to get rid of things they don’t want anymore and get others they need. Web users that want to get rid of goods will be able to publish anything they no longer need including where and when other users may pick it up: furniture, appliances, tools, clothing, toys, books… almost anything can be reused! On the other side, our service will let users who want to acquire goods define a local geographic area in which to find objects of interest and even show them the best route to pick them up.

We will only use open-source software to build the service. The application’s architecture will consist on a server running Linux, a PostgreSQL database, the Django web framework and the jQuery framework. This week we have designed the service workflow and the complete data structure of the application. We have also set up a placeholder page at http://reutiliza.me. SolAR (@johnsonlaimbeer)

Who is the silver team of Tetuan Valley startup school?

We are 2 old friends (who first meet in 9th grade), who decided to start a valuable project about green energy and for the Tetuan Valley startup school program. We have different background and professional experience: as Héctor Criado has a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and System Design and has been into the green energy business since 2005, Fernando Alonso is a mathematician and has worked in R&D of business applications for media companies.

What is the problem to solve?

As the cost of solar energy systems (both photovoltaic and solar thermal) goes down these technologies are diversifying and extending all around the world and becoming more and more popular. But solar systems will only perform optimally if they are properly oriented. Therefore, the average Joe would be glad to have an easy tool to help him to orientate his fancy green energy system.

How do we plan to solve this problem?

We want to develop a mobile application with an augmented reality interface: SolAR
SolAR might be able to improve the solar system performance in 2 ways:
Showing the optimal orientation and inclination at the current site for a giving period of time, and Calculating the periods when the system will be shadowed by surrounding obstacles

Tink (http://tinksecurity.com)

Tink Security (@tinksecurity) is formed by two computer science engineers specialized in mobility and security issues, with innovative and restless minds.
Recent mobile security approaches are so limited. In most of cases, the security components provided for the security platform of each mobile operating system are not enough for current devices. Therefore, Tink Security aims to guarantee user and data privacy through the development of innovative and sophisticated tools for their mobile devices.

Torresgate (http://torresgate.wordpress.com)

Ignacio Martínez, Ana María Salas (@anamsalas) and William D. Wallace (@wdwallace) are three telecommunications engineering students (although Nacho is already doing his Phd) who want to do something creative and useful with what they’ve learned. Ignacio is an electronics enthusiast with years of experience in the design and manufacturing of electronic devices, Ana María is project leader and experienced researcher at the Carlos III University on Quality of Service and William has experience in the design of software API’s for wireless communication devices and is a passionate evangelist for our project.

Abogacia Global  (http://www.e-assistenzalegale.com)

Manuel Gil ( Spanish Lawyer) and Angela Ramirez (Colombian Lawyer)

AbogaciaGlobal is a cutting edge project that involves traditional legal practice, online business elements and a growing network of professionals and attorneys.

Our goal is to enter in the cross national  legal market as a new generation business model in this field based on:

  1. Internet as the main stream to reach potential customers. We believe that Internet is a marketing tool that has been quite unexplored in the legal field.
  2. A team of of international qualified lawyers and professionals from other areas ready to face the challenge that a global market represents.

Right now, the first step of this project has been the creation of e-assistenzalegale, which offers advise to the Italian legal community in matters related to the homologation process in Spain. This first experiment has worked pretty well and our goal is to increase the number of services and involve some other other professionals to our project.
