Back to school: one step forward

These series of guest posts are written by the teams attending the Tetuan Valley Startup School Fall edition. The Orange team, formed by Emilio González and Paco Fernandez, is presenting their project, azenik.

The need for a change after a complete career working as an employee is not unusual. Usually this is only a desire to switch activity and reflects tiredness. But in some cases, people are looking forward and have a real wish to work in something not only different or more creative, but also in a totally different way: they want to be entrepreneurs.

It is a need to start again from scratch. But there’s never the right time to do it.

But, if not now, when? Once accommodated, our life becomes all about postponing.

For a very small team as us, finding an initiative like TetuanValley Startup School has been a key factor in the decision process. When it seemed safe not to move on, here we go again!

It is difficult to give the step but sometimes you have to make the point, and once done a new world arises. Quickly you realize that building a new start-up is not the same as develop an already established business-model (admittedly it smells like different things).

We have some strong points, like business experience and contacts, but although this is true, start-ups are a new world with some different rules in which we feel a bit lost.

Some things never change, this is a world plenty of big dangers and big opportunities but more than ever the input from other start-ups initiatives with young people and fresh ideas is encouraging. As our own idea is giving shape we are broadening our outlook by striving to learn from each experience. It becomes clear than start-ups world is different than usual
business: networking and feedback are critical, events, conferences and contact with entrepreneurs (whether successful or not, recidivist, already established or new ones) are important.

Never been back to school was so appealing. We have been pushed to think again. No doubt, we forecast some exciting out coming weeks.
