Can a Fanknight survive Tetuan Valley?

Some weeks ago I wrote on my personal blog about a very special visiting mentor to @TetuanValley Barcelona Barnacity. Perhaps I’ll get in trouble by posting this without having written in detail about anyone else amongst the incredible list of mentors that are helping on the second edition of Startup School, which includes startup CEOs, Corporate Managers, star professors from leading business schools and what not… but Tetuan Valley is meant to be a source of inspiration, a wakeup call for people that what to change how things are, and Cels Piñol has played this key role for many fans, including myself, for as long as I can remember.

Considered by many the less talented comic artist ever (he used to share publicly he didn’t know how to draw the simplest shapes), @Cels_Pinol managed to become a reference by following his passion relentlessly, building bridges and harvesting a large base of fans that loved his products. From publishing photocopies of a well known manga he moved into handling customer support (a.k.a tackling the waves of fans complaining on why a certain comic was taken out of publication), scripting and drawing a series of one page cartoons (Fan Letal / Fan con nata) included as backpage in most publications… and eventually several comic series, spin offs and merchandising based in the universe he created (where “fans” fight against the establishment so the world keeps being fun). A tale of true entrepreneurship that we have rarely witnessed, trust me.

Last few years Cels has been quite absent, but his recently announced comeback to the editorial world joining Panini will finally feed us fans more materials to ease our addiction. Afterall, he never got to share if in his alternate reality Voayager got home.

PS. Unfortunately due to space limitations we will not be able to admit visitors to his lecture, but hope to broadcast the session. You can also try to catch up with him and other dreamers at Saló del Comic, May 6th to May 9th.
